Unable to use the GitHub Copilot extension in the IDE ❓

We recommend you follow the quickstart guide for GitHub Copilot while setting up GitHub Copilot on your machine. For more information, see "Quickstart for GitHub Copilot."

The GitHub Copilot extension is frequently updated to fix bugs and add new features. It's important to keep your extension up to date because older clients cannot communicate with the GitHub Copilot servers. Update your GitHub Copilot extension on all the machines you have it installed. For more information about configuring GitHub Copilot in a supported IDE, see "Configuring GitHub Copilot."

Copilot Chat features aren't working for me in VSCode? ❓

Check each requirement if Copilot Chat doesn't work:

• Make sure you are on the latest version of Visual Studio Code (run Code: Check for Updates).
• Make sure you have the latest version of both the GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Chat extensions.
• Your GitHub account that is signed into VS Code must have an active Copilot subscription. Check your Copilot subscription.
• Ensure that Copilot Chat is correctly setup. See the setup guide.

Error: "GitHub Copilot could not connect to server. Extension activation failed" ❓

This error indicates that you either do not have a GitHub Copilot subscription, or there was an error connecting to the GitHub API to request a token to use GitHub Copilot.

• To request another token from api.github.com, try signing in and out of GitHub Copilot from your IDE. Once you've logged out, GitHub Copilot will prompt you to sign back in.

• If you still cannot connect to the server, you can create a discussion in our discussion forum. You can include log files from your IDE to help us troubleshoot the issue.

• For more information, see the information about log files in the client-specific articles under "Troubleshooting GitHub Copilot."

Getting error "Invalid copilot token: missing token: 403 - GitHub Copilot could not connect to server. Extension activation failed: At this time, Copilot is not available in your location" ❓

Due to current trade controls, your GitHub account might be restricted from making use of Copilot. This is a region-based restriction and applies to all users located in some trade-restricted countries, being flagged for the same earlier reasons, and is separate from other GitHub services. I like copilot although it is not perfect. But i don't understand why you put a "Memoization" example on the website, that produces python-code that isn't even indented:

When the icon sits and spins for me, I go to a new line and type abc , then let Copilot do its thing (it should prompt something along the lines of def ghi jkl). Once it prompts, the icon stops. Then I just undo once or twice.

I also noticed, at least on my system, when it sits and spins like that, one of my GPUs spins up to like 20-30% until I run through that process.

Getting self-signed certificate in certificate chain error while connecting copilot from Visual Studio 2022 Pro, we are using Netskope proxy solution

This is a known issue that our engineering team has been actively working on. In the meantime, there is a workaround:

For Mac OS

• Use mac-ca to make all certificates in MacOS keychain available to VS Code extensions
• Restart VSCode

For Windows

• Use win-ca in VSCode to force some of those certifcates. Another option that has worked for others is to setup a local, transparent proxy as described by some of our community users.

Hi Akash, We were able to fix the issue using win-ca extension for VS code, however the current issue is with Visual Studio 2022 Professional version in Windows Operating System, I see in the article that it says we could properly install the proxy certificate in the machine in OS trust chain, I think we have a business subscription. Any idea how to do this? Are you using the latest version of VS Code Insiders with VS 2022? . You may need to sign in to GitHub, and will need to authorize the Insiders build if that hasn't been done. Also, restart your editor for allowing any changes to update.

I'm experiencing some issues with GitHub Copilot and Webstorm, it doesn't suggest anything, chat is working. Copilot is working in PHPStorm and RustRover. Is there any solution? I tried logout/login, uninstall / reinstall plugin but nothing change.

Seems that is missing the model deployment id.

I'm loving Copilot, but since about a week or two it's giving me the most unusable, insane answers.
For example, I have this piece of code:

        public string QuoteCurrencyForLean { get; set; }

I then select the QuoteCurrency line and ask Copilot simply to "add the set". It then spits out this:

    public class TradingPairConfig
    {
        public string BaseCurrency { get; set; }
        public string QuoteCurrency { get; set; }
        public string QuoteCurrencyForLean { get; set; }
        public string Pair { get; set; }

        public void SetQuoteCurrency(string quoteCurrency)
        {
            QuoteCurrency = StringUtils.ReplaceUSDWithUSDT(quoteCurrency);
        }

        public void SetPair()
        {
            Pair = $"{BaseCurrency}{QuoteCurrency}";
        }
    }

Totally unusable. I just want it to add the missing set for the QuoteCurrency in the same line, which it would always do before it started talking nonsense.

Another example. I ask Copilot to "simplify":

Thread.Sleep(Config.Instance.Account.OrderSyncScheduleInSeconds * 1000 * (_exchangeInterface is BitmexInverseInterface ? 2 : 1));

the result:

Thread.Sleep(Config.Instance.Account.OrderSyncScheduleInSeconds * 1000);

It just leaves out an essential part of the line. When instead, I ask "simplify this", I get:

var delay = Config.Instance.Account.OrderSyncScheduleInSeconds * 1000;
Thread.Sleep(delay);

It's like asking a toddler to change the code. Total nonsense.
Again, this changed about a two weeks ago. Before that, it worked perfectly.
I've removed and re-installed Copilot, made sure VSCode is of the latest version, but to no avail.

Hi. I use CoPilot plugin for WebStorm. It was previously working fine. I updated it to the latest version yesterday (9/30/2024) and it was logged out and made me login again.

I then accidentally logged in with my personal account instead of my professional account (this one) which has a Copilot subscription.
Now, I am constantly getting an Error in Webstorm stating that "No access to GitHub Copilot found. You are currently logged in as ".

I have tried the following ways to allow me to login again, and nothing has worked:

1. uninstall / restart / reinstall / restart
2. in my Webstorm Settings, list the correct account as my preferred Github account

Please advise! If this is not fixable, then I will have to cancel my Github Copliot subscription because this is the only reason I signed up for it, for WebStorm integration.

I am having the same issue in Visual Studio Code. I am paying for Copilot for Business. All the instructions provided by Github (Quick Start and others) does not help when you have an issue with an already installed version of their product.

I am seeing this is an ongoing issue for other users of GitHub Copilot, but the GitHub staff is not addressing it.

It is very frustrating that they are not addressing it!

I may have found a solution though. I have not yet tried, but I am about to.

I haven't encountered the same problem, but there are settings that appear to do precisely that.

Unfortunately, when encountering this issue, the IDE seems to ignore the "Preferred GitHub account" configured here in settings. It is SUPER frustrating.

However, following the steps here DID work! This is for VSCode, but I did the equivalent in WebStorm and it worked for me, finally: https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/68770

Hello, I would like to ask to the diffrences bettween the GitHub Copilot for the Jetbrains tools (Rider, WebStorm) and Visual Studio (Code). There is a huge gap of functionality for GitHub Copilot. When can we expect to have it alligned a bit more? Generation of PR and so on will this be only exclusive to the VS. Thank you in advance.

Today the Copilot chat in Pycharm is not deleting messages when going in the 3-dots menu and clicking on "Delete Current Conversation". It also generates 4 answers per prompts. This is a recurring bug which happens every few weeks, please get rid of it once for all.
