Release Instructions
====================
This file documents the source and supporting files for the SNS Common
Libraries that need to be modified for version numbers for a particular
revision. Other items that may need to be changed for a new release other than
version numbers will be highlighted.
First a note about version numbers for the entire set of common libraries and
the version numbers for the individual libraries. These version numbers can
and most likely will move independently of each other. To clarify this, lets
make an example progression of versions for the common libraries and some
component libraries.
Common Libraries Version: 1.0.0 2.0.0
Library 1 Version: 1.0.0 2.0.0
Library 2 Version: 1.0.0 1.0.0
In this example, Library 2 did not change version since no work was done on
that library for the 2.0.0 release of the common libraries. The NEWS file
associated with the source code should always contain the correct library
versions for the particular release of the common libraries.
OK, with that being said, let's get to the business of the files that might
need modification.
In the top directory of the source:
NEWS
- This file should be updated for each release. It should include a
description of the overall changes from the previous release and can
contain a detailed list of those changes. An insert of a list of SVN
log changes is probably not very useful here, so I would recommend
against doing it, but I won't stop you.
configure.ac
- The second argument in the AC_INIT command contains the version
number for the common libraries. Change to to appropriate version for
release.
- Interim releases, alpha and beta, should be appended to the version
number at this location.
- The third argument (author list) may also need to be updated for
a particular release.
- Find the section that lists all of the individual library version
numbers. Changes these to the appropriate versions for the common
library release.
In doc:
index.html
- The version number for the common libraries is contained in this
file. Change to the appropriate version for the release.
