TODO:

  • how the project management should be done? Incremental or another fresh start? Set up the basic framework.
    • Incremental, use the same spreadsheet, add new tabs.
    • Keep percent progress, give them different initial value to represent the level of completeness.
    • Keep weekly progress as before, delta of the percent progress
    • Drop the pages tracker, pointless in phase 2.
  • how the communication should be arranged in figure, take into account the time difference between helsinki and beijing.
    • ad-hoc meeting until end of June.
    • twice per week, one in workaday, one weekly in weekend, night time in Beijing (can be discussed later, depends ...).
  • shall we open the case studies to contributors? how to acknowledge them? how to include different topics, by review proposal e.g.?
    • Not now, we have enough content already. But we can reconsider if there are strong candidates who want to contribute.
  • what targets to set for the second phase (code quality, text quality, image quality... )? how to measure them quantitatively? The design of excel table(s)
    • overall quality targets close-to-publication level, which means the text should not be fragmented, should be readable, should be logically consistent, eliminate typos and grammar mistakes.
    • all the code snippets should be finished. The quality should be publication-ready, no bugs, refactored.
    • all the images should be replaced with our own makings. The quality of images should target publication-ready. Some of the figures might need to change the format to PDF.
  • the possible uncertainties, including quarantine, thesis, job, etc. and how they could affect the progress
    • communicate with Liang whenever possible.
    • then just be flexible and adaptive, stay safe first.
    • focus on thesis first, which will be finished by the end of July; during which period a very slow progress is acceptable, but not total stop.
  • the timetable of second phase
    • target is end of the year, i.e. 2020
  • the work load of each chapter w.r.t. metrics above (estimation of work)
    • Jianxin will make an initial estimate.
  • open a new project.
  • possible principles of work mode
    • Chapter by chapter, focus on polishing one chapter every times.
  • standard of equation
    • as general rule, bold font for vector, normal font for scalar, capital for matrix.
    • fix existing writing according to general rule, in case it complicates things, we discuss.
    • try to align equation system if possible.
  • should be give out a draft pdf to the community for collecting feedback
    • yes, send the draft to the community
    • send the toc to jon
  • possible problem to avoid: make the text perfect at the beginning
    • focus on our goal, goal driven, keep track of the progress, project management.
    • bottom line is the book needs to be a good tech writing, correct, clear, readable, logic.
  • anything else?
