Mesa3d on doom 3 & quake 4

has anyone ever used this to play either of these games?
whenever i set it up to use mesa, it crashes quake 4. i'm not sure why it does this.
I've tried put the .dll files from mesa in the .exe location directly with environment variables as .bat & .cmd files
but with no luck.
