Can spatio-temporal random fields be autocorrelated over time in relation to another variable (e.g., age structure of the population, assuming there is a cohort effect with spatial memory)? |

Yes, This assumes we’re talking about ‘spatially varying slopes’ where the random field represents a slope effect, not AR1 fields in another dimension. The argument is If the question is whether you can predict the abundance of each age class with correlation, then you would need a multivariate model, which is not currently implemented in sdmTMB. |
