Hi instructors, I wanted to check in about the presentation expectations. We (the Yelloweye team) were planning to do an informal update on Thursday and a more buttoned-up, comprehensive presentation during finals week. Does that match your expectations? Thanks! |

Yes, informal update is fine, just make sure to have all your files/plots
handy to make sure we have time to go over them. Again, we will focus on
remaining data issues and initial model runs, no need to go over everything
this week.

Hi All,
It's hard to believe, but we only have two weeks + finals week left in the quarter!
As the syllabus states, we are going to hear updates from each team next week, and will try to also continue to cover stock synthesis workflow-type topics.
For these updates, no need to go through every data source again. Instead, just cover those data sources with remaining issues that are not yet finalized (e.g., fishery composition data).
It is also time to start running models! In general, it is a good practice only to update one thing at a time when running models, and then look at how the model has changed. Please show us three model runs as part of your progress:
For these three model runs as well as the the previous assessment model (widow, use the 2019 update), show the comparison plots from
r4ss::SSplotComparisons()
for spawning output and depletion (plots 1 and 3). There should be four lines.Also produce the full set of r4ss plots using
r4ss::SS_plots()
for the model with the survey index, and have those plots ready to examine.We will switch the order, and yelloweye will go first on Thursday, and Widow on Friday.
Have a great weekend!
Kiva
