How does the packaged binary protect source code?

I am concerned that people will be able to unpack the binary and view the proprietary source code of my application.

If you want to protect your source code you need to use a tool for obfuscating ruby code before using Traveling Ruby, which simply copies your source code unmodified to lib/app in every package.
