Currently have 300 hours on lazer and had a few ideas for collections to avoid things like this
I hope that collections will behave more like a file explorer so people with large collections can organize easier.
I know currently there's a dropdown, but I really liked the collections tab and was a little surprised it wasn't also in lazer. I spent most of my time on stable in my collections folder and I'm sure this is true of some other players as well.
The tab could also function differently from stable, where it is the same as song select but with folders. For example, instead of just having one column of folders, you could have multiple columns, or boxes, or different types of organization
Folders in Folders
Pretty self-explanatory, so you can have a [Tournaments] Folder and different mod categories within them.
Choose how folders are sorted
Currently sorted alphabetically, and to get around this people use numbers like [2.032] in the title of the collection to sort collections to their own preference, which can be a little annoying.
Combining, or parsing collections
Say I had a collection of jump maps, but I wanted to sort them by star rating. It would be helpful if I could parse them automatically by star rating, into 5 separate collections, each with a range of x stars. Other categories can be used as well, such as bpm, date ranked, genre, ranking status, etc.
Say I wanted to display maps part of 5 collections, even if they are only part of 1 collection. I believe this is currently not possible.
Allow the titles of collections to be edited
Say I had a few folders for jumps, and I wanted to have a header for these folders. Similar to folders within folders, but the header could be larger, have larger text, or be different colors/fonts. It could also include a dropdown with other folders within it.
Online collections
I'm not sure how feasible this is, but it really would be nice if collections were stored online. There could be limits on how many collections users can upload, or how many beatmaps per collection (supporters get more maybe?) Lots of older players know many great old maps and have so many wonderful maps in their collections a new player (or even another old player) would never find otherwise.
Online collections could be set to public or private, or have a select few users allow edits, or allow certain users to accept suggestions.
I don't know if this is hard to implement, but I really feel that this would be an amazing feature. I can envision a whole new subcommunity of osu dedicated to managing collections, introducing new players to new genres, and allowing users to play more maps that they might have never heard of.
