CKA 2020

Purpose: Provide assurance that CKA holders have the skills, knowledge, and competency to perform the responsibilities of Kubernetes administrators

Cost: $300 Duration: 2 Hrs Tasks: 17-18 performance-based tasks each having different weights Environment: Command line(Terminal) K8s Version: v1.19 Minimum score to pass: 66% Retake: 1 free retake allowed within 12 months, in case failed in the first attempt Scoring method: Automatically graded based on correct results. Results: Will be emailed within 36 hrs from the time exam completed. Also available in My Portal IDs to take exam: Any govt issued valid ID having photo, signature, full name Validity of Certification: 3 Yrs

Domain & Competencies

Cluster Architecture, Installation & Configuration – 25%

  • Manage role based access control (RBAC)
  • Use Kubeadm to install a basic cluster
  • Manage a highly-available Kubernetes cluster
  • Provision underlying infrastructure to deploy a Kubernetes cluster
  • Perform a version upgrade on a Kubernetes cluster using Kubeadm
  • Implement etcd backup and restore

Workloads & Scheduling – 15%

  • Understand deployments and how to perform rolling update and rollbacks
  • Use ConfigMaps and Secrets to configure applications
  • Know how to scale applications
  • Understand the primitives used to create robust, self-healing, application deployments
  • Understand how resource limits can affect Pod scheduling
  • Awareness of manifest management and common templating tools

Services & Networking – 20%

  • Understand host networking configuration on the cluster nodes
  • Understand connectivity between Pods
  • Understand ClusterIP, NodePort, LoadBalancer service types and endpoints
  • Know how to use Ingress controllers and Ingress resources
  • Know how to configure and use CoreDNS
  • Choose an appropriate container network interface plugin

Storage – 10%

  • Understand storage classes, persistent volumes
  • Understand volume mode, access modes and reclaim policies for volumes
  • Understand persistent volume claims primitive
  • Know how to configure applications with persistent storage

Troubleshooting – 30%

  • Evaluate cluster and node logging
  • Understand how to monitor applications
  • Manage container stdout & stderr logs
  • Troubleshoot application failure
  • Troubleshoot cluster component failure
  • Troubleshoot networking

Proctor

  • A remote proctor will monitor the exam throughout the duration via streaming video(webcam), audio and screensharing feeds

Exam setup

Allowed during exam

  • Can open 1 tab in chrome in addition to exam tab
  • Can access https://kubernetes.io/docs/, https://github.com/kubernetes/, https://kubernetes.io/blog/ and their subdomains
  • No other tabs may be opened and no other sites may be navigated to
  • Can take notes using the Notepad feature accessible in the top menu bar of the exam console, or use a text file in the command line terminal. It will not be retained or accessible after exam has ended.
