Servo burns out #1

@tgray-projects

Description

@tgray-projects

If the door isn't quite closed, the servo will still attempt to actuate, driving the deadbolt into position. There is no feedback to the system that this is happening, and the servo will continue to push, burning out the DC motor in the servo.

Additionally, the door stays unlocked during this event, when it appears to be locked to casual observation.

To reproduce, first have a spare servo.

  1. Close the door such that the door appears closed, but there is a small gap between the inside of the door frame and the door of about 1cm.
  2. Let the door attempt to lock; you will hear the servo actuate, but the latch will not engage fully.
  3. Leave it overnight, or until the servo burns out. During this time, the door can still be opened without engaging the lock system.
  4. Replace servo to resume normal operation.
