If there is a discord user "awe" and you on irc do /me is awesome on discord it'll show up as /me is @awe some. Need to look into where this is happening and have it drop the mention conversion unless it's prefixed and suffixed by either space or punctuation or end of line. awe, how are you == @awe, how are you is good, awehow are you should equal awehow are you. For all I know this only happens within /me.

Oh, is this happening because you have no suffix set?

My test suffix is ~d2 and if I set my nickname to awe on Discord, the following message will tag me on Discord: i am awe~d2some.

Yes, better word boundary detection can be added here.

That likely is why, no suffix set. I'll look and see if can detect " " surroundings somewhere soonish.
