If you don't know the format yet, jpeg xl is a still image format meant to succeed to the good old jpeg, developped by a team of developers scattered in Europe.
The codec was recently frozen and it uses, among other tricks, an rANS coder...
I'm sure the team would be happy to hear about your experience on the development of this highly optimized decoder...

haha, yeah, I'm aware of JPEG-XL. I've had a look at some of the specs and cool colorspace stuff a while ago.
However, hypersonic-rANS is currently still very much in development, so only when I've sufficiently optimized the decoder (and hopefully the encoder as well), the discoveries and improvements can be made a part of other projects. I'd be more than happy to assist the JPEG-XL team in writing a blazingly fast rANS codec if I can find the time. Maybe I'll drop by the discord channel some time 🙂
Are you part of the JPEG-XL team, or just excited about image codecs (and saving my soul from AVIF)? 😉

I'm not a developer myself but I came to this discord out of curiosity and stayed to follow the adventure.

The channel is very cozy with some core developers hanging around (jarek duda, jyrki alakuijala, jon sneyers, etc.), some enthusiastic devs (among which some coded alternative implementations) and the mandatory useless fan club 😆

Decoding performance is a point where Jpeg xl was especially challenged when the Chrome team decided to remove its support (link) I'm sure they'll find your discoveries and improvements very interesting !
