Yes it is. Sorry for not updating the README.md. It's done.
At this stage Angular material has a way better solution:

I recommend updating the readme, letting peeps know why it's deprecated, and alternatives (like the one you provided, although that's heavy handed for the reasons I used your efforts on a project :) ).
