This means that if you were to model a composite section, e.g. an I-beam embedded in a concrete circle, the I-beam would just be treated as a lumped mass at its centroid. Thinking about this further here is one possibility:
There are probably many ways to handle this but I think it would be good to decide on a strategy now as there will be some significant back-end changes in how the analysis works and results are displayed. I think this is an important discussion as it will open concreteproperties up to even more possibilities e.g. composite sections, carbon fibre reinforced sections etc.
I have thought about this previously and think it could be a good idea as technically when creating sectionproperties the materials we assign to them should be of a sectionproperties material type. The only thing holding me back was that materials in sectionproperties are Open to other design ideas! |
