For international campuses, we list these as discrete records, generally as parent child relationships, unless otherwise specified by the organization (e.g. where the relationship is one of branding vs. involvement). If there are inconsistencies relative to the organization's self-description, let us know and we can correct. We wouldn't create an umbrella organization for all campuses, barring some exception circumstance, as international campuses are contingent on the existence of the parent/related organization for their own. |

Hello, is there a recommended way to record universities with multiple international campuses in ROR? I work for the University of Nottingham (https://ror.org/01ee9ar58), which is primarily based in the UK and has campuses in Malaysia and China. The Malaysia and China campuses are listed as 'child organizations' to University of Nottingham but the UK campus is not. Does it make sense to create an additional child organization for University of Nottingham UK to distinguish it from the existing umbrella organisation which contains researchers and outputs across all 3 countries?
I've had a look at other UK universities with international campuses, and there doesn't seem to be a consistent approach. Some do not have the international campuses listed in ROR at all (e.g. Coventry), some have their international campus as an entirely separate organization (Lancaster University Ghana), some have it as a related organization (Newcastle). The only one I could find which has both UK campuses and an overseas campus as children is University of London, which is a bit on an anomaly anyway.
