I ran across Sanboxie recently as an alternative to VMware ThinApp and other solutions. However, the more I read about Sandboxie the less I understand it, lol! It certainly has an interesting past and it's nice to see an open source fork of it here (thank you to the contributors).
Some background:
We have a lot of specialized software installs for one of our teams at my workplace. My workplace uses BigFix for app deployments, but some of this specialized software has outdated libraries it needs installed alongside (e.g. .NET 7, VC++ Redist 2015, etc.) and custom configurations that do not play well as BigFix tasks/baselines. So I end up wasting a lot of time helping individual users of this team update this specialized software on each and every laptop they have. This software includes Fluke apps (Analyze Plus, Power Logger), GE EnerVista (with a modules for different relays such as 8-series, 750, 3-series, UR-series), Siemens DIGSI, SKM Power Tools, Doble Protection Suite, Bentley EasyPower, AcSELerator QuickSet, and more. And that's just one team. Other teams have their own oddities. And there's even Autodesk products and Blubeam Revu on top of that.
Worst of all, some of the older, more specialized software doesn't even support and isn't UAC-aware. I can't cobble all of this together in BigFix since much of it won't run from a BigFix client due to no UAC support,no silent install options, and no deployment support. Needless to say, it's out of control.
So I'm looking for a solution where I can run it to track file system and registry changes done when I install this specialized software, bundle that into its own installer or script, and then deploy that as needed. Can Sandboxie do something like that?
Thank you for your help!
