Using AqualinkD with OpenHAB #189

I have AqualinkD 2.4.0 running on my pool. I have Amazon Alexa Echo's, and would like to add automation to say "Alexa turn Spa Mode on". I am not familiar with OpenHab nor MQTT. Would OpenHab run on the same Raspberry Pi as AqualinkD? How do you configure Alexa to work with OpenHab/AqualinkD/MQTT? Is there a plug-in/skill that has to be added? |

You can run both on the same Pi assuming your Pi meets minimum memory and storage requirements. If you have a 16Gb SD and min 1Gb RAM you can try it (see https://www.openhab.org/docs/#while-you-are-getting-started) There are 2 approaches:
Then follow instructions above once openhab is installed connect it to the free openHAB cloud (see https://www.openhab.org/addons/integrations/openhabcloud/) follow instructions here for adding openhab skill to alexa Through the GUI you can add the metadata to the switch objects you create. This is showing for google but alexa is very similar see https://www.openhab.org/docs/ecosystem/alexa/ The switches are very straight forward adding thermostats to raise and lower the SPA temp is a little more complicated |

OpenHAB can use the MQTT binding to control AqualinkD. With https://myopenhab.org/ Openhab provides free integration with google and Alexa. I was able to set it up so alexa control spa and pool as thermostats.
Follow https://www.openhab.org/docs/tutorial/things_advanced.html
1. Create MQTT bridge
2. Create Generic MQTT thing for aqualinkd
3. Channels are not discovered so you have to configure them like so.
