The software was tested with Matlab version 2008b and 2010b with 64bit Linux machines.

Hi, would you mind telling me the version of opencv you used?
Running an old repo is a little painful because of the envirenment.

I am using matlab2019b, which should be OK?

The software was tested with Matlab version 2008b and 2010b with 64bit Linux machines.

This package implements the algorithm for Sketching the Common

Where could I find the code for detecting the common?

I uploaded a newly compiled version of selfsim_cpp (selfsim_cpp_2021).
This version was compiled with opencv 3.4.2.
please pull the changes from the repo and give it another try.

The error you got ("Invalid file identifier") is caused because selfsim_cpp failed to launch and no output file was generated.

Regarding the detection code - I'm afraid this part is lost in the sands of time...
