Cross compilation, depending on the target architecture, is only enabled on rhel5 and 6. Considering that these are (very) EOL operating systems, we should probably allow cross compilation to happen from something a bit more modern.
As I understand it, cross compiling RTEMS on the ECS side of the house is not currently possible due to inode issues with their RTEMS toolchain. This will need to be corrected at some point.
