For me the 3DS screen changes for a split second as if it was sending files and then changes back to the waiting connection screen. And on my computer says "Host is down".

Sorry for the late reply (didn't notice this).

It behaved like that on my Linux laptop before (both symptoms), it just requires a lot of trial and error, and fiddling.

If this is truly broken then I'm not sure, sorry. 😕

Thanks for the answer. I tried several times, maybe I am missing some package?
Anyway, since Nintendo is abandoning the 3DS I installed a custom firmware on mine and now I just host an FTP server on it when I need to transfer files.
I am still willing to help, though, but I am kinda clueless.

See my pull request. It's possible you're having the same issue I was.
