Hi I'm David, a physicist using lattice field theory to research high-energy particle physics. Lattice field theory is an extremely computationally intensive framework that allows us to simulate space-time by generating thousands (or millions!) of little snapshots of small space-time regions. You can watch me give a 10 minute explanation of this approach to a general audience, along with some of the computational challenges it faces, at 45:50 here.
Right now my primary scientific research projects are
- High-performance code development.
- Data analysis related to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. (Right now there is some tension between theory and experiment.)
- Strongly interacting matter.
It's important to me to deeply understand what I'm doing, and I find it highly gratifying to share what I've understood with others. I also l try to open up my field to more people. To accomplish this, it's important to make information about physics digestible, and to give young people exposure to the topic, along with opportunities to make contributions. Hence I am finishing a less technical version of my researchNotes (which I hope will be readable by a first-year undergraduate in physics) and am active in teaching and mentoring.
Sponsorship helps me
- Pay for various subscriptions needed to maintain my collection of physics, math, and programming literature; streamline coding; my website domain; manage git repositories visually; and so on. For instance, I pay to use Zotero.
- Dedicate time to make lattice literature more accessible to beginning undergraduates and laypeople.
Thanks very much for your support. It really helps a lot.

This "book" is a collection of research notes that I made while researching in physics. The first chapters are dedicated to mainly mathematics, and the last chapters are dedicated to mainly physics…
