Latex synatx highlighting in org mode doesnt work

Setting

(setq org-highlight-latex-and-related '(native))

Used to syntax highlight latex equations in org-mode but no longer works as of a few updates ago. I
was hoping this issue was going to resolve itself but hasn't, therefore I'm concerned if something I
have is misconfigured or if this related to the changes involving latex-mode and LaTeX-mode.

I would like to know if this is the expected behavior or that equations should be syntax highlighted
according to LaTeX-mode.

For me it seems to work, when I set the following in my dotfile:

  (setq org-highlight-latex-and-related '(native script entities))
  (setq org-src-fontify-natively t)

Then my buffer shows latex code highlighting:

Thank you! Does this also work if set the variable only to native, and is the syntax highlighting the same as LaTeX-mode or latex-mode? These modes for me produce different syntax highlighting for me.

Setting it to only native will only do partial highlighting see the documentation of the variable for details.

I don't think that the highlighting will be the same between org and latex mode, both are using different procedures for this where the highlighting in latex will be more detailed compared to the basic highlighting applied by org-mode.

For issues with the org highlighting you will need to open an issue in the org project.
