Good news. This feature already exists. I thought I forgot to put it but it exists at the end of the day.

In preferences, in shortcuts, it is the option "Preview Play current subtitle". Put a shortcut and it will work.

Anyway you are right -- it is not really clear how to find these shortcuts. The tree structure is gone. At least I should have put something to help the user with this structure.
