do i need linux on a virtual machine ? sorry never used linux before and never tried hosting a server before, i just wana host one to play with friends

Hi, Thank you for your question. To start running a Minecraft Bedrock server on your own, I would recommend to first just run it on your own local, existing Windows machine. You can download the server software from https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/bedrock and just follow the instructions. If you have already a linux or container infrastructure, you can use a container to run the server (like this one). Or if you want to run multiple server instances or a setbof different services. In short: start with simply running the official server. If you want to make it a more advanced server setup, as next step, you can work yourself into setting up Linux, Containers and running the server in a container.
