As Riot has suffered a bit of a slowdown in the last few years, I'm wondering if there's another package that you guys recommend that has the same high-level goals? (speed/expressive/simple).

I don't know where @gus stands on this, but rspec is not super kludgy anymore like it was at the time Riot came out. I haven't done any ruby work in about 6 months at this point, but the latest rspec stuff is fairly simple and fast nowadays.

I also am a fan of simplebdd if you want something totally declarative. There are plugins for vim to make using simplebdd easier.

"Minitest" sounds like it has some similar goals, as well.
