Cannot add new users in new installation

I installed ver 5.01 +33 using this link https://sourceforge.net/projects/web-erp/files/v5.0.1/WebERP%20v5.0.1%20source%20code.zip. When I tried to Add a new user, after clicking on "Enter Information", I dont get any success confirmation. Instead the user Maintenance screen is displayed. When I check the User Maintenance, the new user is not added. Where did I go wrong? My host is a ubuntu 24.04 server hosted in VMWare workstation Prol. Thanks

Is "show all warnings and errors" enabled in webERP config.php? If not, please do so and try again. I suspect some part of the script is silently failing because error reporting is disabled (the default for a production server).

My config.php does not have that settings..What is the exact script settings to add?

Hi @nutcracker53 the comment I am referring to is not regarding config.php but rather is in config.php.

From config.php (after being created by the installer based on config.distrib.php):

Comment the line with "$Debug=0;" (insert "//" at the start of the line) and uncomment the line with "$Debug=2;" (delete "//" from the start of the line) and access webERP again in your browser.

Login and attempt to add a new user and report any error or warning messages (personally I'm a fan of also including a screenshot for context with the browser address bar visible to show the actual URL being accessed).

Also, welcome to the webERP community! Setting up a server is usually straight forward and trouble free but often there are edge cases that suprise everyone.

For more context,

• am I correct to understand you are using PHP 8.3 and MariaDB 10.11.x LTS? (iiuc default on Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat).

• what documents did you reference to install webERP? README.md? doc/INSTALL.md? The repo Wiki? (they might not be consistent, so helps to understand what your workflow was). Did you deviate from the reference in any ways?

And, because everyone will be curious, what are you hoping to use webERP for? Do you want to learn about ERPs? Do you want to support running a busineess, and if so, what type of business?

I have tried weberp in both ubuntu 24.04.3 with php v8.4 and ubuntu 24.04.2 with php v8.2. Yes am using mariadb ver 15.1 Distrib 10.11.13. For installation guide, I have read INSTALL.md, did some google for guides and use chatgpt. I was able to install webERP without any problem. In our place, there are a lot of small, medium enterprises (smes) who have not computerize because they think that IT is difficult to learn, expensive and hard to implement. With the help of the local chamber of commerce, I have volunteered to make a presentation to these smes to disprove their doubts and to show them the benefits of automation , specifically ERP for their business. And I have chosen webERP as my showcase for my presentation. It would be nice to help out these smes.

Ah, I think this is the same issue I recently encountered because a location hasn't been defined yet.

A default location is stored in the user record and it seems newer versions of MariaDb give an error (that could be caught but isn't) when the location doesn't have a value (which it can't, if you haven't defined any locations yet).

Use menu item [Setup > Inventory Setup > Inventory Locations Maintenance] to define a location then try creating new user again.

There are 2 other issues you may encounter:

1. you will need to manually create the "ItemDescriptionLanguages" config variable if you are seeing a warning in [Setup > System Parameters]. Refer to: Undefined array key "ItemDescriptionLanguages" in C:\xampp\htdocs\weberp\Stocks.php #777 for more information.

2. you may need to manually change DBUpdateNumber in the config table to 31 to force the upgrade system to run updates 32.php and 33.php. Refer to: Installer does not perform updates 32.php and 33.php #811 for more information.

I wish you success and your local SMEs even more success! As you can tell, webERP has some rough edges (mostly related to configuration and understanding intended workflows) but if you persevere to teach yourself the basic business operations, and if the features your local SMEs require overlap with webERP features, it should be possible to have a good outcome.

Is there a particular type of SME you plan to use as an example in your showcase?

Now this is getting really unexpected. The location table is simple with no dependencies. I don't see an error message though in your screenshots, just the query that fails.

I don't know why the error number returned from MariaDb isn't shown. You might get more clues if you copy/paste the query that fails into your favorite mariadb admin program (e.g. phpMyAdmin, DBeaver, the mariadb cli client...) and execute. Also use the admin program to browse the database for clues (e.g. there should be 179 tables, the www_users table should have the initial admin user created by the installer, the config table should have parameters and values, etc.).

Stepping back, is the login procedure is as you would expect? Do the pages all have headers and footers? No other warning or error messages? Can you edit the default admin user and change their phone number?

sorry @nutcracker53, I don't know why the actual SQL error isn't shown or what to do to make it be shown.

When I had the same problem (a new user would silently not be added), I copied the query (the part in your screenshot before "[1] => An error occured...." into DBeaver and executed it there, which did show the error message and led me to the "missing location" cause. I expect you could do the same using the "mariadb" cli client typically bundled with MariaDB server (or any other mariadb client or MySQL admin client).

Does anyone know (or has a guess) why the actual error message isn't shown? Should this be reported as an error in webERP? Is it a server admin or config issue?

Thanks @dalers . I executed the query in phpmyadmin and I got the error. "duplicate location name'.. Corrected it. am ok now. continuing my testing.
