This was written a few months ago but the content is still relevant.

Please do not open issues about the removal of support for uBlock Origin in your browser, or other Chromium-based browsers.

uBlock Origin is still fully supported in Firefox and other Gecko-based browsers.

uBlock Origin Lite might be a suitable replacement, only you can make this determination, see "Frequently asked questions (FAQ)" for more details about uBlock Origin Lite.

Important: Note that to make uBO Lite closer to the blocking efficiency of uBO, you need to set the default filtering mode to Optimal or Complete. Out of the box the default filtering mode is Basic.

uBlock still seems to work for me on chrome and I'm on a personal Chromebook (for school), I can easily switch to Linux to have better browser support for other browsers when it actually breaks so yeah.

You can keep support till June using chrome flags.

Disable:

chrome://flags/#extension-manifest-v2-deprecation-warning
chrome://flags/#extension-manifest-v2-deprecation-disabled
chrome://flags/#extension-manifest-v2-deprecation-unsupported

Enable:

chrome://flags/#allow-legacy-mv2-extensions

This will stop uBO getting disabled/removed and will let you install from CWS without a problem.

Currently the GitHub is only visible after clicking "See more", which most people will miss, and even if they find it, the links are to https://github.com/gorhill/ which I presume is out of date now. It's also possible to provide a Website link for the Details section of that page.

I see, thanks for clarification. Nevertheless, my original point remains that it's currently too hard to find information about the lack of MV3 support and the move to uBOL when the starting point is the Chrome Web Store.

Even if https://ublockorigin.com/ is unofficial, it's still more helpful than the CWS entry. I would also suggest transferring the gorhill repos to this organization - it's a bit confusing having the various repos split across two places.

Would making it an extension where you have to install somehow bypass the limits to the number of ads that can be blocked in the new Chrome extension specifications?

I don't know what you mean by "offline". uBO is an offline extension if you turn off filter lists auto update.

The problem is MV2 code inside chromium itself will be removed, and it's out of uBO control. There's nothing we can do, regardless of which site you put the code in. The issue of the extension you link above is not related to uBO's issue at all.

i mean like since chrome limits the number of ads that can be blocked in the extension, cant the extension be sideloaded and coded in a way so that the block filter list is stored locally and then there are no limits to the number of ads that can be blocked?

I don't know what do you exactly mean, but if you mean to make uBlock an application instead of a browser plugin, then it was already explained, a duplicate of:

That's not the issue here. I don't know why you just focus on "sideloaded" thing while the issue is browsers give extensions API to interact with websites' resources. If browsers remove the APIs, there will be no "tools" for extensions to work with websites, regardless of you "sideloading" or whatever you are imagining here. Do you really understand how extensions work?

but wont the linux version of lets say the brave browser or firefox browser be slower since i read that linux in ChromeOS runs in a virtual machine now?

if that is the case then what is the point of using a slower VM linux based non-chrome browser in chrome OS when ChromeOS is suppose to be lightweight and fast?
