Milestone 3.0.0

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share with you that we are slowly starting to build a backlog for the next major version release of Build Tools for VMware Aria. This would be our third major version release and first opensource major version release!

Feel free to review the 3.0.0 backlog and add more ideas and suggestions to the open issues or open separate ones.

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to do a short update on the topic - release v2.44.0 will be the last release before we move forward with 3.x topics.

This means that after 2.44.0 is officially released we will start closing issues from the above mentioned 3.0.0 milestone which are BREAKING CHANGES (non-backwards compatible). For most of those I do not expect to have big impact but please, take a look at them, monitor the PRs that might be relevant to any functionality used by you and take action upfront or at least have it as a reference in case you hit an error after some of those functionalities have been changed/removed.

Future development will continue to follow semantic versioning, meaning the first 3.x release will be 3.0.0 and continue from there based on the issue type with the exclusion that all currently planned breaking changes will be covered in 3.x.x even if they are not included in the 3.0.0 release (in other words even if we don't merge all currently planned major changes in 3.0.0. we will not do 4.0.0 for them but continue with 3.x.x).

The 3.0.0 release will be executed as soon as we cover part of the planned stories (not necessarily all of them together).

Support of 2.x releases is possible but will be with lower priority and will contain mainly bugfixes, critical fixes or highly requested/must have features. Any further required 2.x releases will be done in a separate branch that will be created (when needed) from the last 2.x.x release tag.
