I installed on Debian 12 LXDE then loaded Windows Manager - DWMinstall icewm desktop to get the dependencies needed for gedit, thunar, etc
Some other ditros may not load eveything so below is some needed files for DWM if you don't have it already
sudo apt install make gcc libx11-dev libxft-dev libxinerama-dev xorg
