Community Discord

There is an official community Discord, but it's quite bare.

Are there plans to make it more public? Can we put the sign-up link on the website?

I'm well aware of the ethical implications of using that platform (being closed and not in the spirit of an open web et al.) but I'm also aware that it's probably one of the less obscure and “kinda free” options out there to get some chatting going.

In the long run we could even use it as a replacement for meetup as that platform works less and less.

I'm not soo convinced that day-to-day chatter will happen on the discord as our first attempt of advertising it kind of failed. I also don't have topics to discuss there basically :D

Well, up until our last event, I had no idea it existed. Might be worth putting on the website?

Day to day: There are 21 people in the Discord in total and 4 are online right now. We have way more people attending the meetups.

tbh, I don't know if this is really possible, as some features of Meetup and other event platforms (e.g. RSVP or guest limits) are not supported by Discord, but often our sponsors need that kind of clarity of who will be coming etc.

Maybe it's worth sharing the Discord again in the next event to see what happens.
Also more channels and more interaction would be really cool.
