Currently, it is hard to tell what improvements have been made. Color coding/highlighting UI improvements would help

Like in a documentation sense? E.g. putting an image in the README showing UI changes or listing features?

Maybe make the options box hover on DukeHub so users can see CSS changes live instead of having to refresh the page.

An options box directly accessible in DukeHub is a good idea.

However, it might be a bit complicated implementing live enabling/disabling for Javascript-heavy features due to the need to add/remove elements and scripts.

Plus, I don't think users will enable/disable appearance changes often -- maybe they'll disable it out of curiosity, but then they'll enable it and never change it again. May not be worth the effort for a low-use feature.
