Phase 3 Refinement Complete

Motion Refinement

Easing

  • ✓ Reduced all easing from power2/power3 to power1
  • ✓ Removed exaggerated curves
  • ✓ Linear for SVG draws (no personality)

Distance & Speed

  • ✓ Reduced Y movement: 20px → 10px → 5px
  • ✓ Reduced X movement: 10px → 5px
  • ✓ Reduced scale changes: 0.9 → 0.95 → 0.98
  • ✓ Tightened durations: 2s → 1.8s, 1.5s → 1.2s

Scroll Feel Progression

  • ✓ Act I: Heavy (scrub: 1.5, late start, tight range)
  • ✓ Act II: Dense (scrub: 1.2, building momentum)
  • ✓ Act III: Light (scrub: 0.8, early start, short range)
  • ✓ Act IV: Decisive (scrub: 1.0, focused)
  • ✓ Act V: Still (scrub: 0.5, latest start, minimal range)

Subtraction Pass

Animations Removed

  • ✓ Act I: Subline fade animation (already readable)
  • ✓ Act III: Subline fade animation (one headline enough)
  • ✓ Act III: Opacity fade on line transformation (pure scale)
  • ✓ Act IV: Lock opening animation (turn implies opening)
  • ✓ Act IV: Stagger between lock/key (simultaneous reveal)
  • ✓ Act V: Subline separate animation (appears with headline)
  • ✓ Act V: Y movement on subline and body (pure fade)

Result

6 animations removed. Site still works. Improved through reduction.

Typography & Spacing

Type Scale Refinement

  • ✓ Display: 5rem → 4.5rem (less imposing)
  • ✓ Headline: 3.5rem → 3rem (tighter hierarchy)
  • ✓ Subhead: 1.5rem → 1.375rem (better rhythm)
  • ✓ Line heights tightened: 1.1 → 1.05, 1.4 → 1.45
  • ✓ Letter spacing refined for precision

Spacing

  • ✓ Section padding: 12rem → 14rem (more breath)
  • ✓ Mobile responsive scaling added
  • ✓ Consistent vertical rhythm

Performance

GPU Acceleration

  • ✓ force3D enabled on body
  • ✓ willChange hints on animated elements
  • ✓ limitCallbacks enabled in ScrollTrigger

Optimization

  • ✓ Reduced timeline complexity
  • ✓ Removed unnecessary staggers

What Was Removed (Subtraction Audit)

  1. Subline animations (Act I, III, V) - Text already readable
  2. Opacity fade on line (Act III) - Pure transformation is cleaner
  3. Lock opening (Act IV) - Turn implies opening
  4. Stagger timing (Act IV) - Simultaneous is more decisive
  5. Y movement on body text (Act V) - Pure fade is quieter
  6. Exaggerated easing (All) - power1 is enough

Performance Metrics to Check

  • Lighthouse Performance Score > 95
  • First Contentful Paint < 1.5s
  • Time to Interactive < 3s
  • Cumulative Layout Shift = 0
  • Test on throttled connection
  • Test on low-end device
