I am currently in the mood of spreading some love and some experience with setting up multi-region clusters. However, with Planb-Cassandra being currently dependent on Stups-tooling this becomes fairly difficult outside of Zalando.

Also from a OSS-perspective it would probably make sense to become independent of some current dependencies/ required prerequisites to make Planb-Cassandra even more useful.

Please consider this for future versions. I could probably even help out if this is required.

@jbspeakr I think this should generally be easy to do by using CoreOS' Container Linux (like we do with Kubernetes): it comes with Docker installed and can be configured purely via userdata (like Taupage). Senza even supports CoreOS already without manual hacks, see https://github.com/zalando-incubator/kubernetes-on-aws/blob/dev/cluster/senza-definition.yaml#L37
