Youtube Streaming

These steps were documented weeks after the event, which is cumbersome. Hopefully they will be refined as time goes on.

Log in as the appropriate account, go to the Creator Studio Dashboard at https://www.youtube.com/dashboard

On the left sidebar, click Live Steaming. https://www.youtube.com/live_dashboard

Create a camera. This is Youtube's term for a video source, which for most people is a camera. For us it will be a video mixer called Voctomix.

When I click on Camera now, I get a warning that I need to allow access to my camera and microphone. I don't remember getting that warning before. I was able to add a camera then that gave me a "secret" URL to add to the event. However, if you continue, it looks like this step is no longer necessary.

We don need the secret URL, keep it secret (so no one hijacks the stream) and pass it to the voctomix setup: streaming.rtmp.location

Once you have created a camera, click on Events under Live Streaming. Click on New Live Event in the top right. Enter a time in the future and Custom for the type. Click Create event.

At the bottom of the next page, choose a Single use or Reusable stream key. This is the part that appears to no longer require you setting up a camera in advance. When you select one and are given the Encoders options, select Other Encoder. Once you have it configured to your liking, click Save changes at the top right.
