Safety & Best Practices

LinkedIn Terms of Service

⚠️ Important: LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits:

  • Section 8.2: Scraping or automated data collection
  • Section 8.3: Using bots or automated methods

Consequences:

  • Account suspension
  • Permanent ban
  • CAPTCHA challenges
  • Rate limiting
  • Legal action

Recommended Approach

✅ Safe Usage

  1. Analysis Only: Use NetPrune to filter and export
  2. Manual Removal: Remove connections via LinkedIn interface
  3. Gradual Process: Spread removals over days/weeks
  4. Review First: Always review before removing

❌ Risky Usage

  • Browser automation
  • Bulk automated removals
  • Rapid consecutive actions
  • Headless browser mode

Rate Limiting Guidelines

Based on community experience (not official):

  • New accounts: 10 removals/day max
  • Established accounts: 20-30 removals/day max
  • High risk: 50+ removals/day

Detection Methods

LinkedIn uses:

  • Behavioral analysis
  • Mouse movement tracking
  • Timing pattern detection
  • Device fingerprinting
  • Machine learning models

Best Practices

  1. Use dry_run mode first
  2. Test with small batches
  3. Mix with normal LinkedIn activity
  4. Don't use VPNs (suspicious)
  5. Use your regular browser when possible
  6. Stop if you see CAPTCHAs

Our Recommendation

Use NetPrune as an analysis tool only.

Export filtered connections, then:

  • LinkedIn has bulk selection features
  • Review each connection before removing
  • Remove gradually over time
  • Stay within LinkedIn's guidelines
