Editorial Practices
The goal is to develop a curated set of open source French short definitions for Ancient Greek Lemmas that can be used by Alpheios, Eulexis, Logeion and any other interested projects.
The data set of French definitions to be manually curated was automatically derived from the following sources:

Anatole Bailly's Dictionnaire grec-français (page on Wikipedia), digitized by Gérard Gréco with special help from André Charbonnet (Chaeréphon), Mark De Wilde and Bernard Maréchal (http://gerardgreco.free.fr/spip.php?article52&lang=fr, version based on the 1935 edition), extracted and normalized by Philippe Verkerk, Eulexis Project (https://outils.biblissima.fr/en/eulexis)

Google translations of the Eulexis English short definitions (taken from Diogenes).
Although the primary goal of the project is to develop the French short definitions, the curation process also affords an opportunity to improve the Eulexis English and German short definitions for the same Greek lemmas.
Credit will be given collectively to all contributors to the effort.
- Use the Comments field to document the sources used for editing a definition. (E.g. if you use the Gaffiot to find a translation for a Latin word in a definition, etc.)
- If you are unsure of a definition and have questions you want to note, you can use the Comments field for this as well (and choose to skip rather than validate the lemma, which will save the comment to the updated file).
- For people and place names, Helma recommends including an old fashioned Latin transliteration because it will help link to Latin dictionaries and other reference works, which often have more information.
- Length of translations: aim at a max. length of 75-80 characters.
- Repetitions: if unnecessary repetitions are found in a translation they should be removed. For example, the translation of παχύς « épais, gros, fort ; opulent, riche ; épaissi, épais » should become « épais, gros, fort ; opulent, riche».
- Verbs whose meaning change at middle/transitive/intransitive form: indicate in brackets to which voice a certain meaning applies. For example, the translation of λοχάω « dresser des embûches ; occuper ou intercepter par une embuscade ; se mettre en embuscade » should become « dresser des embûches ; occuper ou intercepter par une embuscade ; (moy.) se mettre en embuscade ».
- To indicate distinctions between major senses of a word use the sign " | ", and keep " ; " to distinguish between minor senses. For example, the translation of ἀποχώρησις « tranquillité, calme, repos ; paix ; loisir ; placidité ; silence ; solitude ; action de faire cesser » should become « tranquillité, calme, repos ; paix ; loisir ; placidité ; silence ; solitude | action de faire cesser ».

Where possible choose to edit and validate the Bailly definition over the automatically generated Eulexis translation, unless the Bailly entry is obviously not the correct one for the lemma.

Expand abbreviations (e.g. 'fleuve' instead of 'fl.').
- Use the lowercase for verbs.
- Try to limit corrections to clearly wrong definitions.
