Нужно отделить реализацию алгоритма от его тестирования, разбить на файлы.
В задании нужно использовать один из фреймворков для тестирования pytest или unittest. В текущей реализации после первого непройденного assert всё упадет и остальные тесты даже не запустятся.
Для property-based тестирования нужно сравнивать на множестве случайных данных, желательно сравнивать с тем, что уже было хорошо протестировано, возьмите sorted().
