To Fix Black Screen (no PBA) on XPS/Precision Laptops Note: The Samsung PM961 NVME drive cannot support OPAL encryption, so you need a new drive if you have this one. The Samsung 960 EVO/PRO and SM961 all work.
- Follow steps to install sedutil and set up the PBA
- Completely power laptop off
- Boot into BIOS (press "f12" at the Dell logo just after powering the laptop back on)
- Under "Boot Sequence", select "Add Boot Option", and add a boot option name (I use "PBA")
- Select "Add Boot Option", and navigate to the installed PBA. I used "\EFI\boot\bootx64.efi"
- Select "OK"
- Power laptop off, then restart. You should get the PBA screen now
- After unlocking the laptop, you'll see the Dell logo again. Press "f12" to boot into BIOS
- Under "Boot Sequence", select "Add Boot Option" again
- Add a "Boot Option Name". I used "grub"
- Navigate to the directory to use by pressing the three dots on the "File Name" entry. If you only see "\EFI\boot[entries]", that means that the unlock failed. Try repeating from step 7 again. Add your entry where grub/windows is located if successful. My file name is "\EFI\gentoo\grubx64.efi"
- Power laptop off, and try booting into the PBA. If successful, you should boot into your OS
