Further info: It appears that if AP user and password are the same as router, the current version MerlinAU on the router does in fact report version info for the AP — the issue appears to manifest itself when the AP login credentials do not match router:

This version would always exclude the AP since we can't validate it's external setup. In the eyes of the primary router it's basically its own entity to my understanding.

I think that new method is better since it's a crapshoot as it is now with an AP in the mix.

And it's consistent with Asus — neither the web UI nor the Asus app show APs in their AiMesh site map. Let me know if you need anything else tested wrt APs.

That's exactly everything I need to know.
Your good to dismantle the AP now if you'd like. I've provided the same Functions to JimbobJay over DM on SNBForums for him to test and waiting for feedback now.

It's back in the unused network pieces and parts box, ready to be pulled back into service at a moment's notice!

That was an excellent demonstration of great teamwork right there!!!

Having the right partner(s) willing to assist & collaborate in testing with the proper setup and test environment to verify and validate results is a crucial and invaluable aspect in s/w development.

I’ve been writing code professionally for over 3 decades now, and it’s been my experience that the test & system engineers that verify and validate code for s/w devs don’t get enough credit for the indispensable and invaluable work & resources they provide.

My hat’s off to you, @TheS1R !!! (AKA @visortgw)!!
Thanks a lot for your help.
Now, give that man a free beer!!! LOL!!

I tagged him in thinking he might be able to help on the first PR and he did not disappoint!

I don't code nearly to the same capacity, as you know, it's more of a side task to my main job to create PowerPhell apps that go along side our VPN solutions, I would say I usually fall more into the testers area myself, but I would fully agree that the value to the role is important and can sometimes be overlooked. I never get that sense with this team though which is why I always enjoy working with this group 😃

Beer incoming, try to keep it cold, the fires are burning hot! I can barely see outside with the amount of smoke.

Thank you both, @Martinski4GitHub and @ExtremeFiretop, for your kind words. I truly enjoy working with you both to test and debug configurations that you cannot -- it's a small contribution for all of the work that you both donate to the community. Enjoying that beer as we speak...

@ExtremeFiretop, please keep that smoke north of the border! We don't want a repeat of two years ago!
