Major MRI related software packages

There are a few open source MRI-related software packages that are very widely used, especially within the fMRI research community, and are definitely worth knowing about.
- AFNI - Analysis of Functional NeuroImages a software suite of C, Python, R programs and shell scripts primarily developed for the analysis and display of anatomical and functional MRI (FMRI) data. Software website has 2,200 hits on Semantic Scholar (May 2019).
- Freesurfer - https://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/fswiki - An open source software suite for processing and analyzing (human) brain MRI images. Software website has 4,180 hits on Semantic Scholar
- FSL - FMRIB Software Library a comprehensive library of analysis tools for FMRI, MRI and DTI brain imaging data. Software website has 2,360 hits on Semantic Scholar (May 2019).
- SPM - Statistical Parametric Mapping The SPM software package has been designed for the analysis of brain imaging data sequences. Software website has 12,700 hits on Semantic Scholar (May 2019).
