IC‐9700 Configuration
When the Decoder connects to an IC-9700, it will load the IC-905 frequency limits mapping. This works since the 9700 has the same 3 lower bands as the 905. The upper 3 go unused. The 705, supporting HF bands and 6M, only has 2 overlapping bands so it must load a whole different frequency table to define 6 bands of frequencies that relate to the 2 groups of IO pins, 6 pins each.
For PTT keying, connect the ACC socket SEND line to the Decoder PTT in jack. The PTT outputs will be on pins 7-12 depending on IO pin mapping. In most cases pin 7 will be assigned to 144, pin 8 for 430, and pin 9 for 1200.
To make the 9700 talk to the Decoder over USB some settings are required.
CI-V Transceive = ON
SET > Connectors > CI-V > CI-V Transceive ON
CI-V USB Echo Back = OFF
SET > Connectors > CI-V > CI-V USB Echo Back > OFF
CI-V USB Port = Unlink to [REMOTE]
SET > Connectors > CI-V > CI-V USB Port > Unlink to [REMOTE]
CI-V USB Baud Rate = 115200
SET > Connectors > CI-V > CI-V USB Baud Rate > 115200
CI-V Address = A2h
SET > Connectors > CI-V > CI-V Address > A2h
Note 8 from the IC-9700 manual:
When you use the [USB] port, select “Unlink from
[REMOTE]” in the “CI-V USB port” item, and select
“115200” in the “CI-V Baud Rate” item.
MENU »SET > Connectors > CI-V
You can use the [LAN] port, regardless of those settings.
You cannot use the [REMOTE] terminal, regardless of
those settings
Optional for USB Keying (applied to all radio models)
CI-V USB Keying can be used to sequence amplifier and relays. You can connect a footswitch or microphone switch to the PTT In jack on the Decoder and the Decoder will apply USB DTR signal to the radio causing it to key up. If some time delay added in the decoder (it is 0 today) this will hold off RF from the radio for a period of time, letting the downstream amps, transverters, and preamp relays settle before RF flows preventing hot switching. If there is interest, designated IO pins could be sequenced also.
SET > Connectors > USB SEND/Keying > USB SEND > USB (A) DTR
