Algebraic Statistics

The study of probabilistic graphical models has been a success story in Algebraic Statistics. Two possible goals are advancing the following projects involving Graphical Models:

Khovanskii Bases

Subalgebra and Khovanskii bases adapt the ideas of Groebner bases to algebras. The accompanying theory has connections to Newton-Okounkov bodies, tropical geometry, and toric degenerations. This project involves

  1. Modernizing and generalizing previously developed code for subalgebra bases and
  2. Implementing some of the applications of subalgebra and Khovanskii bases.
