Pico Donk

some cool music, run in realtime on a pi pico. Made as part of the soton ecss 2021 nanohack, in about 8-9 hours (of which at least 3 hours was getting the toolchain compiling)

To listen to the output, build a resistor DAC on gpio 0-15 to create a 16bit mono output. It will almost certainly need amplification.

Based on the template at https://github.com/rp-rs/rp2040-project-template

Requirements

  • The standard Rust tooling (cargo, rustup) which you can install from https://rustup.rs/

  • Toolchain support for the cortex-m0+ processors in the rp2040 (thumbv6m-none-eabi)

Installation of development dependencies

rustup target install thumbv6m-none-eabi
cargo install --git https://github.com/rp-rs/probe-run --branch rp2040-support
cargo install flip-link

Running

For a pc build

cargo run

For a pico build

cargo run --target thumbv6m-none-eabi -p pico-donk-rp2040

To put onto a Pi Pico

arm-none-eabi-objcopy -O binary ./target/thumbv6m-none-eabi/debug/pico-donk-rp2040 ./target/picodonk.bin
sudo picotool load -xv ./target/picodonk.bin
