* Update the module version to 9.0.

looks very much like you took the code from #2812, so the same comments apply.

You could have better cherry-picked the other contributor's work to keep attribution, and review the other PR

@hbrunn Hi! I thought it would be better to create a migration from the PR to 17.0. I've also added the modifications in comments within this PR.
