- Find a state that has been assigned to you by going to https://github.com/OpenBounds/OpenHuntingData/issues and selecting your name under assignee.
- Search google for the relevant data. A good search term to start with is “name of state Fish and Game GIS”
- Once you have the found the correct page to download data from there may be several datasets that seem like they could be relevant. You may have to do additional research by looking at hunting regulations to determine which dataset is actually relevant. If there is a dataset you are unsure about make a note about it on the github issue you are working on.
- Download the applicable data then for each datasource:
- Download, and make a note of the URL.
- Open data in ArcView/Qgis/Whatever desktop gis app you use.
- Verify that the data has correct projection information, this can be done by turning on a base layer and making sure the data is correctly positioned over the base layer.
- Find what columns contain the Name and Identifier attributes. In QGIS this can be done by right clicking on the layer in the Layers Panel, and selecting Attribute Table. Not all sources will have both of these attributes.
