Although the integration of GitHub and Zenodo makes it really easier to work with these tools nowadays (January 2019), it is important to stress that there are alternatives to GitHub (Gitlab, Bitbucket,...) and alternatives to Zenodo (Other repositories might be more suited to your community, you might ask your colleagues).
