CyberLab Case Tracker v3.0.0 (2025-11-18)

Highlights

  • Automated Reporting Scheduler: Run weekly or monthly export jobs that bundle PDF summaries, Excel workbooks, graph snapshots, and the interactive map into organized folders.
  • Scope-Aware Graph Snapshots: Each automated run now emits both full-history and date-filtered charts with descriptive filenames so teams can see trends at a glance.
  • Always-On Map Coverage: Automated HTML map exports always include every case, even when reports are filtered by week or month, ensuring remote viewers see complete geography.
  • Updated About Tab: The About page now details major workflows, highlights the new automation pipeline, and reiterates how to share outputs with remote teammates.

Upgrade Notes

  • Replace your existing executable with the new CyberLab Case Tracker.exe from this release; keep your app_data folder in place to retain settings and data.
  • Review the Automated Reports settings (Settings → Automated Reports) to pick output folders, date scopes, and report types for your environment.
  • Point the automated export directory to a synchronized location (SharePoint, OneDrive, or a network share) if you want teammates to see new reports in real time.

Installation

BACKUP your DB (database) file (.db) This file contains all your application data.

  • If upgrading from a previous version replace you existing CyberLab.Case.Tracker.exe with this one, your database will populate in application when launched.
  • If installing for the first time, recommend creating a folder in a location of your choice to place the exe into. When you launch the exe it will create database folder and any other needed files/folders.

Highlights

  • Added “Forensic Tool” everywhere: case forms, combos, PDF exports, spreadsheets, and graphs all stay in sync.
  • Introduced graph styling options (bar, stacked, pie, line) and improved year filtering across completed and in-progress datasets.
  • Restored the map heatmap toggle with smarter caching, optional overlay rendering, and richer marker popups showing case counts and total volume.
  • Revamped inline editing with a reusable validator/save pathway and a pop-out editor for long notes.

Fixes & Polish

  • Reset plot aspect between charts so pies no longer shrink subsequent graphs.
  • Sorted case aging alerts and tightened spacing in the Total Summary PDF output.
  • Hardened geocoding fallbacks and added cleanup for residual heatmap layers.
  • Bundled digital.ico directly in the PyInstaller spec to keep the icon consistent in the EXE, window chrome, and taskbar.

Known Issues

  • Heatmap toggle remains disabled unless a future tkintermapview release exposes set_heatmap / delete_all_markers. Everything else functions with current dependencies.

IMPORTANT

If you are installing for the first time, make a folder in your documents or of your choice on your PC. Place the exe into that folder you just made, when you open the exe application for the first time it will create the app_data folder and the caselog_gui_v6 database file inside that folder. This is where your application will save all it's data and settings.

If you are updating from previously using the Lab Log, You can download the new exe below, replace the existing exe leaving the app_data folder and caselog_gui_v6 file. When you open the new exe from that directory it will automatically load your case info and settings.
