✅ Key Features Implemented:
Smart Query Language: Developed a parser in
utils/queryParser.js
that interprets complex expressions.
Example: category:food >500 date:last-month pizza will find food expenses over $500 from last month containing the word "pizza".
Facet-Driven Analytics: The
SearchService
(via MongoDB Aggregation) now returns not just results, but also "Facets"—showing the distribution of categories and top merchants for the current search context.
High-Performance Indexing: Updated
models/Transaction.js
with a multi-field Text Index (description + merchant) and B-Tree indexes for range queries (amount), ensuring results return in under 100ms even with large datasets.
In-Memory Caching: Added
middleware/cache.js
which caches frequent searches for 5 minutes, significantly reducing database load for popular queries.
Fuzzy Merchant Autocomplete: A new utility endpoint GET /api/search/merchants provides fuzzy name matching to power UI search bars.
New API Endpoints:
GET /api/search/smart: The main search engine endpoint.
GET /api/search/merchants: For merchant suggestions.
