Enter sports player, get news from their country!

Tech used: HTML, CSS, JavaScript

This one was fun. I found a sports player database that returns player nationalities, aka the countries they are from. So i had the idea from seeing an news api i scrolled past to put the country into the news search query. This came out pretty cool and definitely works. I had to use a cors proxy workaround to get it to work with the news api (wanted me to pay for premium.. i showed them :D)

First I setup two inputs to get the first name and last name from the user. Then I grabbed those values in my javascript and inserted them into the URL for my fetch request. I setup my fetch request, put the URL inside using a template literal. After reading through the documentation, i learned how to insert the first and last name into the api. Then i inserted the values of the first and last names into the url appropriately. This allowed me to get information about the player. The information included their home country. Then i setup another fetch request to take in their home country. I read the documentation of the news API and figured out how to setup my API key and search query. Using postman I tested the api links, ensuring the api is returning what I want it to return. After getting the information I wanted from the api, I put that api url into my code and replaced the search query with the javacsript object containing the players home country. I used a template literal to achieve this. Now, I had access to news from their home country. So i inserted images, titles, and a link from each article into the dom.

Optimizations

I would add some styling! The api works really well as is however.

Lessons Learned:

Definitely feel better about the cors proxy links. Got more practice with calling APIs and learning how different query paramaters. Reading the documentation gave me good practice, now i feel well practiced with APIs and documentation!
