This PR should contain all the commits that were between v1.6.0-rc.0 and the release v1.6.0-rc6. It was created by switching to the v1.6.0-rc.6 tag and creating a branch.

Please look over the final code changes in this PR before we merge this into develop. If you have any concerns, please say something!

When we are ready to merge this, it should not be squashed.
